In our town, long-standing connections and backdoor deals have created entrenched networks that control opportunities and resources. These networks often operate with little accountability, protect each other from scrutiny, and stifle fairness.

Entrenched networks are groups of individuals and organizations with deep-rooted connections and influence. They use their relationships to maintain power and control, creating a system that benefits a select few while leaving others behind. These networks can include social clubs, secret societies, sororities, fraternities, family members, friends, neighbors, alumni, and professional colleagues. At the heart of these networks lies the Co-option—Impunity—Exploitation Dynamic, which explains how corruption thrives within these systems. By bringing new members into the corrupt system through benefits (co-option), ensuring that those involved are not held accountable (impunity), and taking advantage of the system for personal gain (exploitation), entrenched networks continue to thrive.

By increasing transparency and demanding accountability we can work towards dismantling these entrenched networks and creating a fairer, more just community for all.
