A few days ago, SETRPC proudly announced a public transit program designed to assist the most vulnerable members of our community. It was a glimmer of hope for many — finally, a solution to a long-standing issue! And yet, this morning, we wake up to news of an indefinite delay. No launch date. No clear answers. Just a vague explanation of “logistical issues” from Bob Dickinson, Director of Transportation, who stated they hope to resolve them as soon as possible.

Here’s the thing: When an organization rolls out marketing materials, sets a launch date, and drums up public excitement, only to pull the rug out from under us, it’s hard not to feel like we were played. Overpromising and underdelivering is one thing, but this indefinite delay feels like either gross incompetence or a deliberate tactic to distract the public. Was this program ever going to happen, or was it just a shiny object to pacify the masses?

And let’s not forget — this is a needed service, not a luxury. For many in our community, reliable public transit isn’t about convenience; it’s about survival — access to jobs, healthcare, and everyday necessities. The fact that this program is now in limbo is unacceptable.

SETRPC owes this community more than a vague statement. Why invest in marketing and a launch campaign only to delay it? Why dangle hope in front of those who need it most, only to snatch it away? And most importantly, when will this program actually become a reality?

As residents, we need to demand accountability. Mayor Anderson Land and Councilwoman Angel McCroskey, who represent our city at the SETRPC, have a responsibility to ask the tough questions and ensure that we get clear and transparent answers. Our community deserves to know what’s really going on — and to ensure that this program doesn’t fall by the wayside. This service is too vital to let slip through the cracks.
